Alex Snoeren's research interests include operating systems, distributed computing, and secure mobile and wide-area networking. Dr. Snoeren is an assistant professor in the computer science and engineering department at UCSD. He received a Ph.D. from MIT in 2003, where he was awarded an honorable mention in the George M. Sprowls doctoral dissertation competition for his work on supporting mobility and disconnection in the Internet. Dr. Snoeren received the NSF CAREER award in 2004 and the Best Student Paper award at the ACM SIGCOMM conference in 2001. Prior to joining the Jacobs School faculty in January 2003, Dr. Snoeren was a research scientist with BBN Technologies. His current research projects focus on improved wide-area Internet routing, resource allocation and application support for distributed computing platforms like PlanetLab and the Grid, and securing Internet hosts against malware and denial of service attacks.
