Voelker, and Enze Liu, whose paper, Lost in Translation: Text Message Spoofing via Email, received a Distinguished Paper Award at the 2026 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy, one of the premier conferences in computer security and privacy. The research reveals how attackers can exploit email-to-text gateways to spoof SMS messages and impersonate trusted senders, highlighting important vulnerabilities in widely used messaging infrastructure. All of the authors are researchers in UC San Diego Computer Science and Engineering and the Center for Networked Systems. Enze Liu formerly a graduate student at UCSD, is now a post doc at CMU.
