Summary

Geoffrey M. Voelker enjoys working with students on research in a variety of areas of computer systems networking and security. Recent projects in these areas range from wireless networks to machine virtualization, cloud storage and cybercrime. His research is experimental and empirical. As a result, a considerable amount of his work involves system and network measurement in addition to design, implementation and evaluation. Voelker also enjoys teaching systems and networking courses. In a course he teaches yearly, CSE 125, students experience the design and implementation of a large, complex software system in large groups. To make the course exciting as well as challenging, each group designs and implements their own distributed, real-time, 3D, multiplayer game. He joined the UCSD faculty in January of 2000. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley in 1992, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Washington in 1995 and 2000, respectively.
